Patricia, I wanted to make sure you didn't miss the news: Ohio Republicans are moving forward with the most extreme abortion ban in the country after being emboldened by Donald Trump's win. Ohio has become a testing ground for anti-choice legislation -- banning late-term abortions, cutting funding for rape crisis centers that discuss abortion, and forcing women who seek abortions to receive and pay for an ultrasound to check for a fetal heartbeat. Republicans aren't going to stop unless we stand up to them. We are prioritizing Ohio races for 2018. Patricia,

The legislature in my home state of Ohio just passed a law banning abortion after six weeks — with no exception for survivors of rape or incest.

This is as extreme as abortion bans get. Many women don't find out they're pregnant until they're further along than six weeks, so this bill would leave them unable to access abortion services at all.

And the only reason it passed is because Republicans control both chambers of the Ohio state legislature. That's why Ohio's a priority for EMILY's List in 2018.

Donate $3 today so that we can recruit pro-choice Democratic women to run in Ohio — and anywhere else Republicans try to ban abortion.

The Supreme Court has already struck down a similar abortion ban that North Dakota passed a few years ago, and another was passed and struck down in Arkansas too.

But thanks to Donald Trump's victory, Republicans in Ohio were emboldened to move their extreme bill forward during the lame duck session.

Their hope is that the legislation will be challenged and end up before the Supreme Court, where there's still an open seat. Senate Republicans have obstructed President Obama's nominee for nine months, so it looks like Trump will get to pick the next justice.

And he's promised to appoint anti-choice ones.

Republicans across the country are taking Donald Trump's win as an opportunity to step up their attacks on choice and abortion rights. Now more than ever we need to make sure we have pro-choice Democratic women running against them wherever and whenever we can.

Some say, "As Ohio goes, so goes the nation." But we can't let this be the new normal. Ohio's extreme and unconstitutional move puts women and families at risk.

Donate $3 now to defeat extreme anti-choice Republicans like those in Ohio and stop the abortion bans:
