We would go to my grandmother's land to get a cedar tree. It always looked like it was the perfect size, but similar to the holiday movie favorite "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation," when we got it home it didn't fit so we had to cut a good portion off. We no longer cut down our own Christmas tree, but my wife Cathy and our daughters and granddaughters have made new traditions that we enjoy as a family. In this season of giving, a new tradition has grown nationwide to thank those who have served and sacrificed on behalf of our nation. Earlier this month, thousands of volunteers at more than 1,100 locations nationwide including the Little Rock, Fort Smith and Fayetteville National Cemeteries as well as the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, honored the sacrifice of our nation's fallen heroes by placing remembrance wreaths on their graves. The wreaths transform cemeteries across the country and spread the holiday spirit to loved ones no longer able to celebrate the joys of the season with us. <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/Customers/SenBoozman/Capitol_Chr istmas_Tree.jpg> The Capitol Christmas tree. The generosity around the state is an inspiring site. Volunteers welcome donations to the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign with the familiar sound of the bells to help those in need. Boozman Bulletin: Merry Christmas

As a child during the Christmas season, I looked forward to joining my dad and my brother in the hunt for our family Christmas tree. We would go to my grandmother’s land to get a cedar tree. It always looked like it was the perfect size, but similar to the holiday movie favorite “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation,” when we got it home it didn’t fit so we had to cut a good portion off. We no longer cut down our own Christmas tree, but my wife Cathy and our daughters and granddaughters have made new traditions that we enjoy as a family.

In this season of giving, a new tradition has grown nationwide to thank those who have served and sacrificed on behalf of our nation. Earlier this month, thousands of volunteers at more than 1,100 locations nationwide including the Little Rock, Fort Smith and Fayetteville National Cemeteries as well as the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, honored the sacrifice of our nation’s fallen heroes by placing remembrance wreaths on their graves. The wreaths transform cemeteries across the country and spread the holiday spirit to loved ones no longer able to celebrate the joys of the season with us.

The Capitol Christmas tree.

During the holidays we thank those who have served and sacrificed on behalf of our nation and offer prayers of thanks, as well as prayers for the safety and well-being of our military personnel, who along with their families here at home, sacrifice so much to enable us to celebrate Christmas in a free country

As Christians across Arkansas and the country gather together to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with Christmas pageants, our favorite holiday songs, food and fellowship, we also open our hearts to those who are less fortunate.

The generosity around the state is an inspiring site. Volunteers welcome donations to the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign with the familiar sound of the bells to help those in need. The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program aims to fulfill the Christmas wishes of Arkansas children whose families struggle to make ends meet. These are all traditions that spread the joy of the season.

Christmas is a time when friends and family come together to celebrate what matters most. Gathering with loved ones to exchange gifts, spending time talking with each other, sharing a meal and reflecting on the blessings we’ve been given is what the holiday season is all about. These are moments that become memories we can treasure for a lifetime.

I hope the spirit of Christmas fills your home and hearts this season. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
