Grassley Direct

I spoke with Tom Williamson of KIIC Radio and Gordon Wolf of the Denison Bulletin Review about the President-elect’s nominee for the Office of Management and Budget, agriculture policy under the new administration, limitations and changes to midnight regulations, and the repeal and replacement of Obamacare.

Q&A: Restoring Checks and Balances

Q. What is the REINS Act?
Q. What other ways are you working to advance common sense regulatory relief?

Quick Links

I met with Rep. Mick Mulvaney, President-elect Trump's nominee to be Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). OMB has a tremendous amount of power over cost savings and other oversight practices throughout the executive branch. Rep. Mulvaney listened carefully to my suggestions on specific management and oversight issues. I look forward to the rest of his confirmation process.

I also had a chance to meet with the President-elect's nominee to be Secretary of Homeland Security, Gen. John Kelly. It was clear to me from our conversation that Gen. Kelly understands the critical importance of border security and immigration enforcement to the overall security of our country.

I presided over the Senate Judiciary Committee's two-day hearing on the nomination of Senator Jeff Sessions to be United States Attorney General. Over the course of those two days, Senator Sessions and other witnesses provided testimony that affirmed his decades-long dedication to public service and commitment to faithful and fair execution of the law. You can watch my opening remarks from the hearings here.

I worked with two of my colleagues to re-introduce a bipartisan bill that would help pharmacists provide medical care to older Americans in communities lacking easy access to doctors. A lot of people in rural Iowa have easier access to a pharmacist than a doctor, and Medicare ought to pay when those pharmacists provide medical services. This bill works for rural seniors because they keep access to their local pharmacist and don't have to go to the doctor for straightforward medication management.

I also introduced a bill this week to address the high cost of prescription drugs. The bill, called 'Preserve Access to Affordable Generics Act,' would crack down on an anti-competitive tactic called pay-for-delay where brand-name drug companies pay generic drug makers to keep less costly medications off the market. This practice raises the cost of prescriptions, leaving all of us to pay the price.
