“We had an amazing rally in Huntington, NY. Over 350 people showed up, filling the main hall, a spill over room, and others simply could not get in.” -- Ron Widelec, Our Revolution Member
Sisters and Brothers,
Across the country this weekend, you showed up and made your voices heard. From one coast to another and everywhere in between, more than 30,000 of us at 152 different rallies stood as one to protect Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and health care as a right. And our efforts are making a difference.
Support for the Affordable Care Act has reached an all-time high, with a recent Pew Research survey showing that 54% of the American people support the landmark health care law. We cannot afford to go backwards by throwing 30 million Americans off of health insurance.
We understand that in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, we must cut health care costs for the middle class and working families. That’s why our demonstrations this weekend were so important.
The power of public opinion is influencing the debate in Washington and state capitals as we speak. President Trump and his special interest friends, embattled by massive demonstrations like ours this weekend, have not been able to move forward with their plan to give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires to the detriment of working Americans.
Trump has indicated that he will not cut entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security in the coming federal budget. But given his history of skirting the truth, we know that we cannot take Mr. Trump at his word -- that’s why we have to keep the pressure on.
It is grassroots and community activists like you taking action that are going to bring about the change this country needs. Thank you for being a part of the needed political revolution.
