Dear Unity,

On Wednesday night, we learned that Attorney General Jeff Sessions, under oath, misled Congress about his conversations with Russia. That’s unacceptable. He should resign.

The misinformation by Attorney General Sessions, like National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s lies regarding his own conversations with Russians, leaves enormous questions about what the administration is trying to hide. The American people deserve a full accounting of the connections between Russia and Donald Trump and his campaign.

That is why I called for a fully empowered, totally independent special prosecutor to investigate these issues.

We must know:
· What was the nature of the repeated contacts Trump campaign and transition officials had with Russian officials?
· Why did Flynn and Sessions try to hide their conversations?
· Who else was involved in the cover-up?
· Did President Trump or his other senior advisers direct or know about either the contacts with the Russians or the efforts to hide them?

These answers will only be provided by an independent, publicly accountable investigation. President Trump should also make public his tax returns, as other presidents and presidential candidates have, so the public knows whether or not his unconventional policy stance towards Russia is not the product of his financial or business entanglements there.

Our national security and the integrity of our elections are at stake. The American people deserve to know why administration officials are working so hard to cover up their contacts with Russia, and to get assurances that their best interests are driving American foreign policy.

All my best,
Jeff
