Sisters and Brothers,
A federal judge has temporarily halted the White House's second iteration of its racist Muslim ban. But we know the Trump Administration will fight the ruling as part of its repeated attempts to sow division amongst us.
As a candidate, Donald Trump pledged to create an illegal Muslim registry. We think it's time to create a different kind of registry that lifts all of us up: a nationwide, grassroots movement of people who will stand up and speak out when our immigrant and Muslim sisters and brothers are under attack.
This cruel and inhumane executive order bars immigrants who have fled some of the war-torn, drought-stricken countries in the world. The first immigrants who came to America fled religious persecution, but Donald Trump and his advisors want to use the religion of today's immigrants as a measuring stick.
The Statue of Liberty reads,“Give me your tired, your poor. Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” There is no qualifier based on religion or country of origin. If Donald Trump wants to register some of us, then our job is to build a grassroots registry of people who will take action to stop this administration's racist policies from taking effect. Join our rapid response list to hear when there is urgent action needed locally to counter the travel ban and other policies harmful to Muslims and immigrants.
It is our job to resist. It is our job to say loud and clear: not on our watch. Not in my community. Not in my movement. We must stand together for our values, or else we stand for nothing.
Thank you for standing with us for principle and purpose.
