The bill would give top U.S. agriculture and food officials permanent representation on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. Quick Links

This week I introduced a bill called the Food Security is National Security Act of 2017. The bill would give top U.S. agriculture and food officials permanent representation on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. As more foreign entities continue aggressive acquisition of U.S. food and agriculture companies, it's imperative that the transactions face additional scrutiny in order to protect the integrity, safety and resiliency of America's food system.

This week is Sunshine Week, an annual nationwide celebration of the good that comes from peeling back the curtains on government. In that spirit, I co-introduced two bills that would open up the Supreme Court and federal courts broadly to cameras in the courtroom. Courtrooms represent a place to find justice and to resolve disputes. They are also the birthplace of decisions that can impact the lives of Americans for generations, so allowing cameras in courtrooms would contribute to a better understanding of and appreciation for the American judicial system.

Also in the spirit of Sunshine Week, I am leading a group of my colleagues from the Senate Judiciary Committee in a review of the implementation of the FOIA Improvement Act, a bill that strengthens public access to government information. Last year I led the bill out of the Judiciary Committee, which I chair, and it was signed into law last June.

I led a group of 23 senators in signing a letter sent to President Trump urging him to maintain the point of obligation under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and reject any proposed changes that would upend the current successful system. Our goal is to continue providing stability and predictability for an industry that is creating jobs and economic growth across the country.
