Budgets are moral documents -- they reflect the values of a leader. Donald Trump released the outline for his first budget as president last week. There's only one way to look at it: it's a direct assault on working Americans.
Democrats are going to fight this budget tooth-and-nail. If you're with us, add your name right now.
There's very little that isn't on the chopping block. Job training programs, public education, public health -- all slated to be slashed or killed altogether.
Dozens of federal agencies and programs covering everything from low-income heating assistance to worker safety to public broadcasting will be gone.
This budget is bad for cities, which will see big cuts to important affordable housing and job creation programs. It's bad for rural communities that helped put Trump in office, where he is reducing or eliminating major employment and infrastructure investments.
And it's calamitous for our planet. Trump's 31 percent cut to the EPA will eliminate 50 programs, including President Obama's plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the EPA's climate change research.
You might be asking, with all those cuts, where is the money going? Trump has given us his answer -- a massive buildup in military spending, more funding for Trump's deportation force to terrorize immigrant communities and separate families, and, yes, $4 billion dollars for that damn border wall.
My friend Joe Biden has a saying: "Don't tell me what you value. Show me your budget, and I'll tell you what you value."
This budget paints a pretty clear picture of what -- and whom -- Donald Trump values. And why we desperately need to fight back.
