Kasich signed Ohio's transportation budget that maintains the state's steady progress in improving its highway infrastructure without raising the gas tax as other states have been forced to do. It also takes important new steps to position Ohio to be a leader in the future of transportation: self-driving cars and drones. Gov. Kasich also announced new, strict mandatory limits on opiates used short-term pain in the Administration's continuing efforts to curb addiction. While earlier work has already cut opiate prescriptions by 20 percent and largely eliminated doctor shopping, keeping more people away from these addictive painkillers are crucial. The governor also met with a broad delegation of faith leaders from across the state to strategize on how they can help in Ohio's fight against drug abuse and addiction. Last Monday, the governor was in Washington, D.C. to meet with members of congress about how to repair Obamacare, while preserving coverage for the drug addicted, mentally ill and the working poor. He also encouraged both sides of the aisle to work together on bring about lasting reforms. Read more (here). Governor Kasich also spoke at the prestigious Toner Prize dinner in Washington, D.C. which celebrates excellence in political reporting.
