If you want a clear example of the dangerous chaos Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are creating, Anne, look no further than the war they're waging on the environment.
Over the past couple of weeks, Trump has proposed cutting the Environmental Protection Agency's funding by 31 percent and greenlit the Keystone XL pipeline. Meanwhile, House Republicans voted last week to handcuff the EPA's ability to create regulations based on scientific evidence.
And on the same day that House Republicans held that ridiculous anti-science vote, EPA chief Scott Pruitt denied a petition to ban chlorpyrifos -- a pesticide that can cause seizures, lung failure, and paralysis in children and farm workers.
Trump -- who believes climate change is "a hoax" -- also wants to back out of the Paris Climate Agreement, which Pruitt called "a bad deal" on Fox News this past Sunday. But even the top three U.S. coal producers and ExxonMobil have told Trump that this is a bad idea. (Congratulations to Donald Trump on bringing Big Coal, Big Oil, and climate scientists together!)
Trump, Pruitt, and the GOP think they can let polluters run roughshod over the environment and put children and working people at risk. Let's show the GOP that when it comes to protecting our planet for future generations, we mean business:
This is an important fight, Anne. Thank you so much for stepping up today.
