Dear Friend,

Today our nation remembers the men and women who took an oath to defend their country and protect the blessings of liberty for each of us. But this year, in addition to honoring the faithful service of our veterans, I ask each of you to show your thanks through action.

South Carolina Veterans History Project

The Veterans History Project is a collaborative effort with the Library of Congress to preserve the stories and memories of veterans’ service for future generations. To learn more about how you can support the initiative and preserve the story of a special veteran in your life, please click here.

VHP - Mabel

A remarkable veteran - Mabel from Charleston, SC – during her interview for the Veterans History Project. She served during World War II in the United States Navy in a special unit known as WAVES - Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service.

Honor Flights

The Honor Flight Network gives World War II veterans an opportunity to visit their memorial, Arlington Cemetery and a number of other monuments during a day-trip. To learn more about how you can support the Honor Flight efforts or how South Carolina veterans can apply for the trip, please visit the Honor Flight South Carolina website.

Hiring Our Heroes

In 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. I’m excited to be partnering with them for an upcoming Hiring Our Heroes Jobs Fair in Myrtle Beach, SC early next year. To learn more about it, please click here. The U.S. Chamber is currently hosting many job fairs around the country so to find one in your area, visit the Hiring Our Heroes website. Please help me spread the word to both veterans and businesses around the country about this wonderful opportunity.

These heroes and their families deserve our deepest gratitude at every opportunity for their remarkable service to their country, and so I ask you today to serve them. And to our courageous veterans… today and always, we salute you with the respect and honor of a grateful nation.

In Freedom,
