Lessons from Mom
The first images that greet visitors upon entry to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum Permanent Gallery are childhood photos of President and Mrs. Bush with their families. The values they learned as children – particularly from their mothers, Barbara Bush and Jenna Welch – laid the foundation for their lives of public service and continue to be the principles that guide them today.
This Mother’s Day, we echo President Bush’s 2003 Mother’s Day Proclamation: “We remember the lessons our mothers have taught us: That it is better to give than to receive, that we must love our neighbors as ourselves, and that service to others brings joy.”
