The event kicks off a new project by the Human Freedom initiative aimed at revitalizing bipartisan consensus that, in the interest of American prosperity and security, the United States should lead in advancing freedom and free markets globally. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush and will hear from Anita McBride , Keith Hennessey , Meghan O’Sullivan , and Dana Perino , along with other members of the Bush Administration and leadership experts. In the spring edition of The Catalyst: A Journal of Ideas from the Bush Institute , Jeff Cleland and Laura Collins explain how veterans are equipped to supply talent for those and other fields. Cleland, a retired Marine corporal, is manager of the George W. Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative. Collins is deputy director of the Bush Institute’s Economic Growth Initiative. Drawing upon their different backgrounds, they detail how this valuable resource can strengthen our economy. Lessons from Mom

The first images that greet visitors upon entry to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum Permanent Gallery are childhood photos of President and Mrs. Bush with their families. The values they learned as children – particularly from their mothers, Barbara Bush and Jenna Welch – laid the foundation for their lives of public service and continue to be the principles that guide them today.

This Mother’s Day, we echo President Bush’s 2003 Mother’s Day Proclamation: “We remember the lessons our mothers have taught us: That it is better to give than to receive, that we must love our neighbors as ourselves, and that service to others brings joy.”
