That's in addition to the $840 billion in Medicaid funding cuts within Trumpcare - $40 billion being cut from Illinois alone. Altogether, President Trump wishes to cut Medicaid funding by $1.3 trillion over the next decade. In Illinois, three million people depend on Medicaid for health insurance, and Illinois schools received about $150 million in Medicaid funds last year to provide services to students with disabilities. His budget cuts the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by 25 percent. In Illinois, two million low-income people can afford their groceries thanks to SNAP. President Trump's budget also cuts $5.8 billion from the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) over the next decade, including a 20 percent cut next year alone. In Illinois, 50 percent of kids 1.5 million depend on Medicaid and CHIP for health insurance. And that's just the beginning. This budget would have a devastating impact on Americans most in need of a helping hand on everything from healthcare and food to access to quality education and affordable housing. We need a budget that reflects the best of America's values and keeps the promises that have been made to senior citizens, working families, and future generationsnot one that pulls the rug out from under our nation's most vulnerable. <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx rop=15220.13102501.9326218.7246002&report_id=&redirect=https%3a%2f%2fwww youtube.com%2fwatch%3fv%3diXrG5WjPcPk%26t%3d7s&redir_log=95254638406635 2> Sincerely, Dick Durbin United States Senator <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/Customers/SenDurbin/Website_foot er.PNG> <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx rop=15220.13102501.9326218.7246002&report_id=&redirect=http%3a%2f%2fwww. durbin.senate.gov%2fcontact%2fnewsletter%2funsubscribe&redir_log=0735230 51375425> Click here to open a plain text version of this email <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet//view_newsletter_setup.aspx n_text=Y&link=SenDurbin%2501104618%250105-26-2017%2bTrump%25e2%2580%2599 s%2bBudget%2bPulls%2bthe%2bRug%2bout%2bFrom%2bUnder%2bOur%2bNation%25e2% 2580%2599s%2bMost%2bVulnerable%250115220.13102501.9326218.7246002%2501du rbin%2540unityfeed.com%2501Friend%2501%2501%2501> Click here to forward this email <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet//view_newsletter_setup.aspx ard=Y&link=SenDurbin%2501104618%250105-26-2017%2bTrump%25e2%2580%2599s%2 bBudget%2bPulls%2bthe%2bRug%2bout%2bFrom%2bUnder%2bOur%2bNation%25e2%258 0%2599s%2bMost%2bVulnerable%250115220.13102501.9326218.7246002%2501durbi n%2540unityfeed.com%2501Friend%2501%2501%2501> Click here to open this e-mail in its own browser window <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet//view_newsletter_setup.aspx =SenDurbin%2501104618%250105-26-2017%2bTrump%25e2%2580%2599s%2bBudget%2b Pulls%2bthe%2bRug%2bout%2bFrom%2bUnder%2bOur%2bNation%25e2%2580%2599s%2b Most%2bVulnerable%250115220.13102501.9326218.7246002%2501durbin%2540unit yfeed.com%2501Friend%2501%2501%2501> Click here to comment on this email <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet//view_newsletter_setup.aspx y=Y&link=SenDurbin%2501104618%250105-26-2017%2bTrump%25e2%2580%2599s%2bB udget%2bPulls%2bthe%2bRug%2bout%2bFrom%2bUnder%2bOur%2bNation%25e2%2580% 2599s%2bMost%2bVulnerable%250115220.13102501.9326218.7246002%2501durbin% 2540unityfeed.com%2501Friend%2501%2501%2501>

Fellow Illinoisans,

For all the talk on the campaign trail of standing up for the forgotten men and women of this country, the President’s budget takes aim at the exact programs that our nation’s most vulnerable rely on. From healthcare and food stamps to student loans and disability payments, President Trump’s budget is nothing less than an assault on seniors, low-income Americans, children, and the disabled.

In a speech on the Senate floor, Sen. Durbin chastised President Trump’s fiscal year 2018 budget request to Congress.

President Trump’s budget slashes more than $600 billion in Medicaid funding over the next decade. That’s in addition to the $840 billion in Medicaid funding cuts within Trumpcare - $40 billion being cut from Illinois alone. President Trump’s budget also cuts $5.8 billion from the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) over the next decade, including a 20 percent cut next year alone.  In Illinois, 50 percent of kids – 1.5 million – depend on Medicaid and CHIP for health insurance.

And that’s just the beginning. This budget would have a devastating impact on Americans most in need of a helping hand on everything from healthcare and food to access to quality education and affordable housing. We need a budget that reflects the best of America’s values and keeps the promises that have been made to senior citizens, working families, and future generations—not one that pulls the rug out from under our nation’s most vulnerable.

Sincerely,

Dick Durbin
United States Senator
