Durbin <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/Customers/SenDurbin/Website_head er_3.png> The Durbin Report: It's Time For Republicans To Drop Repeal, Work With Democrats To Strengthen The Affordable Care Act Fellow Illinoisan, This week, Senate Republicans decided to delay their health care repeal effort until after July 4th. While I'm relieved, I know the fight isn't over. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office report that came out Monday, 22 million Americans would lose health insurance under the Senate Republican health care repeal bill including one million Illinoisans. Premiums would be raised dramatically on Americans between 50 and 64 years old and deductibles would skyrocket. This bill posed a threat to the survival of our downstate hospitals, slashed Medicaid funding, and undermined coverage for people with pre-existing conditions all to provide millionaires, billionaires, and the pharmaceutical industry with half a trillion dollars in tax breaks. <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/Customers/SenDurbin/pic1.png> While it should be improved, the Affordable Care Act has been fundamentally good for Americans. The American people don't want bills written behind closed doors that rip away health insurance from tens of millions, they want ideas that will improve our health care system and Republicans clearly failed to deliver. Too many innocent people will be hurt if Senate Republicans keep trying to ram though a massive tax cut masquerading as a "health care" bill. <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx rop=15390.13503349.9445744.7246002&report_id=&redirect=http%3a%2f%2fwww. youtube.com%2fwatch%3fv%3dyB5_Qafx-SY&redir_log=992160169023286> VIDEO: WATCH ME CALL ON REPUBLICANS TO IMPROVE, NOT DESTROY, OUR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx rop=15390.13503349.9445744.7246002&report_id=&redirect=https%3a%2f%2fwww youtube.com%2fwatch%3fv%3dyB5_Qafx-SY&redir_log=966834861611293> What I know is this: The Republican repeal effort is still very much alive. There are reports that Republicans are continuing to work on their bill in secret without any input from Democrats, experts, or the American people. They are doing it wrong. And I've heard from many of you who are fearful of what this dangerous repeal plan will mean for Illinois. As I've said before, if Republicans take repeal off the table, I will happily pull up a seat to address rising premiums, a lack of competition in the marketplace, and the rising cost of prescription drugs. It's high time Republicans work with us to strengthen the Affordable Care Act and our health care system. But know that I will fight any effort that that leads to less coverage, fewer benefits and protections, and higher costs. The Durbin Report: It’s Time For Republicans To Drop Repeal, Work With Democrats To Strengthen The Affordable Care Act

Fellow Illinoisan,

This week, Senate Republicans decided to delay their health care repeal effort until after July 4th. While I’m relieved, I know the fight isn’t over. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office report that came out Monday, 22 million Americans would lose health insurance under the Senate Republican health care repeal bill – including one million Illinoisans. Premiums would be raised dramatically on Americans between 50 and 64 years old and deductibles would skyrocket. This bill posed a threat to the survival of our downstate hospitals, slashed Medicaid funding, and undermined coverage for people with pre-existing conditions – all to provide millionaires, billionaires, and the pharmaceutical industry with half a trillion dollars in tax breaks.

While it should be improved, the Affordable Care Act has been fundamentally good for Americans. The American people don’t want bills written behind closed doors that rip away health insurance from tens of millions, they want ideas that will improve our health care system — and Republicans clearly failed to deliver. Too many innocent people will be hurt if Senate Republicans keep trying to ram though a massive tax cut masquerading as a “health care” bill.

VIDEO: WATCH ME CALL ON REPUBLICANS TO IMPROVE, NOT DESTROY, OUR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

What I know is this: The Republican repeal effort is still very much alive. There are reports that Republicans are continuing to work on their bill in secret — without any input from Democrats, experts, or the American people. They are doing it wrong. And I’ve heard from many of you who are fearful of what this dangerous repeal plan will mean for Illinois.

As I’ve said before, if Republicans take repeal off the table, I will happily pull up a seat to address rising premiums, a lack of competition in the marketplace, and the rising cost of prescription drugs. It’s high time Republicans work with us to strengthen the Affordable Care Act and our health care system. But know that I will fight any effort that that leads to less coverage, fewer benefits and protections, and higher costs.

Sincerely,

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin
