First, House Speaker John Boehner put another plan on the table in an attempt to get past the fiscal cliff stalemate. His proposal is similar to one first presented to Congress last year by a leader of President Obama's bipartisan Deficit Reduction Commission. The plan has a combination of significant spending cuts and new revenues as a result of tax reform. Speaker Boehner's draft plan calls for roughly $1.4 trillion in savings and would bring in $800 billion in new revenue through tax reform that lowers overall rates and eliminates many loopholes, enjoyed primarily by upper-income earners. The Obama Administration last week laid out a plan that simply called for a $1.6 trillion tax increase without any meaningful spending reductions or reforms. Visit Speaker Boehner's website HERE <iqs3.solutions.lmit.com/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx johanns-iq&crop=18144.56334420.12092180.14749790&redirect=http%3a%2f%2fw ww.speaker.gov%2fpress-release%2fhouse-gop-leaders-make-new-offer-avert- fiscal-cliff> for more information about his proposal. The second thing of note is the Senate's passage of an amendment I offered with Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark) to the Defense Authorization bill. The amendment <iqs3.solutions.lmit.com/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx johanns-iq&crop=18144.56334420.12092180.14749790&redirect=http%3a%2f%2fw ww.johanns.senate.gov%2fpublic%2f%3fp%3dPressReleases%26amp%3bContentRec ord_id%3d1d7f512f-684d-4438-8647-15ff13a56c55> , Helping Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Return to Employment (HIRE) at Home Act, encourages states to consider the training service members receive during active duty when determining eligibility for state licenses and certifications. Senator Johanns e-Update
December 3, 2012

I wanted to update you on two new developments in Washington today.

First, House Speaker John Boehner put another plan on the table in an attempt to get past the fiscal cliff stalemate. His proposal is similar to one first presented to Congress last year by a leader of President Obama’s bipartisan Deficit Reduction Commission. The plan has a combination of significant spending cuts and new revenues as a result of tax reform.

Speaker Boehner’s draft plan calls for roughly $1.4 trillion in savings and would bring in $800 billion in new revenue through tax reform that lowers overall rates and eliminates many loopholes, enjoyed primarily by upper-income earners. The Obama Administration last week laid out a plan that simply called for a $1.6 trillion tax increase without any meaningful spending reductions or reforms.

Visit Speaker Boehner’s website for more information about his proposal.

The second thing of note is the Senate’s passage of an amendment I offered with Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark) to the Defense Authorization bill. The , Helping Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Return to Employment (HIRE) at Home Act, encourages states to consider the training service members receive during active duty when determining eligibility for state licenses and certifications.
