To Ignore Africa Is To Ignore 2050
The summer edition of The Catalyst: A Journal of Ideas from the Bush Institute addresses tomorrow's Africa, examining the forces transforming the continent and the realities that stand in Africa's way. The list of contributors includes leaders and innovators from across the continent, such as Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf , First Lady of Namibia Madame Monica Geingos , and ONEâ€™s Nachilala Nkombo.
The issue also features interviews with three people who have made a marked impact on the continent: President and Mrs. Bush and Bob Geldof , organizer of the Live Aid concerts that have benefited Africa. And contributors include authors with expertise on issues in Africa, including The Economistâ€™s Africa Editor Jonathan Rosenthal and the Bush Institute's Holly Kuzmich , Natalie Gonnella-Platts , Brittney Bain , and Crystal Cazier.

A limited number of tickets remain available for The Art of Painting: A Conversation with President Bush's Art Instructors. President Bush will offer introductory remarks before turning the program over to the three instructors heâ€™s worked with: Gail Norfleet, Jim Woodson and Sedrick Huckaby. Donâ€™t miss what is sure to be an entertaining behind-the-scenes look at the President's training, dedication and development as an artist. Meredith Land of NBC 5 will moderate. Overflow seats in the Bush Center Hall of State are on sale at a discounted price for Democracy & Freedom: A Conversation with Dr. Condoleezza Rice (moderated by Dana Perino ). Sisters First: A Conversation with Barbara Bush & Jenna Bush Hager on Nov. 5 is sold out, but those interested are encouraged to join the waiting list in the event additional seats are made available.

Discover | Democracy in Poland Prevails
Last week, the Polish Senate approved the elimination of judicial independence and agreed to give sweeping judicial power to the acting president. In a surprising turn of events, Polandâ€™s president vetoed these bills. In a span of a few days, Poland witnessed a reaffirmation of the value of peaceful protest and international support for democratic structures.
