Durbin <outreach.senate.gov/iqextranet/Customers/SenDurbin/Website_head er_3.png> The Durbin Report: Last Night Was A Victory For Illinois Fellow Illinoisan, While you were sleeping last night, Senate Republicans made their latest attempt to rip health care from millions of Americansall while increasing costs and reducing the quality of coverage. They revealed their secret health care repeal bill in the dead of night, blocked debate, and then forced a vote just a few hours later. It was the most reckless, purely partisan effort I have seen in all my time serving in the United States Senate a disgrace to the deliberative institution of the Senate. But because of three courageous Republican Senators, 48 united Democrats, and you: they failed to ram through their repeal of the Affordable Care Act. If they had succeeded in any of their repeated health care repeal efforts, there would have been severe consequences for every single Illinois family. Under many of the Republican health care repeal proposals, one million hard-working Illinoisans would have been robbed of their health care, our outstanding hospitals would have lost between 60,000 and 95,000 good paying professional jobs, protections for pre-existing conditions would have been undermined, and Illinois seniors would have seen their premiums rise sharply. Medicaid, which three million Illinoisans, including 1.5 million children and more than 300,000 seniors rely upon, would have been guttedfurther damaging our state's budget and economy as well. The basis for these Republican health care repeal bills was giving massive tax breaks to the wealthiest few at the expense of quality and affordable health care for millions of Americans. There were zero hearings and zero input from patient or medical groups. The American people were kept completely in the dark until the very last minute. The United States Senate is better than this and our constituents deserve better. It's time to roll up our sleeves and start anew with a bipartisan effort in the Senate to strengthen our health care system and give more Americans the peace of mind of quality, affordable health insurance. It's time to do our job and actually deliver for the American people. Thanks to the patients, nurses, doctors, hospitals and ordinary citizens like yourself who stood up and fought back, the special interests lost on the floor of the Senate last night and our Illinois families prevailed. The Durbin Report: Last Night Was A Victory For Illinois

Fellow Illinoisan,

While you were sleeping last night, Senate Republicans made their latest attempt to rip health care from millions of Americans—all while increasing costs and reducing the quality of coverage. They revealed their secret health care repeal bill in the dead of night, blocked debate, and then forced a vote just a few hours later. It was the most reckless, purely partisan effort I have seen in all my time serving in the United States Senate — a disgrace to the deliberative institution of the Senate.

Medicaid, which three million Illinoisans, including 1.5 million children and more than 300,000 seniors rely upon, would have been gutted—further damaging our state’s budget and economy as well.

It’s time to roll up our sleeves and start anew with a bipartisan effort in the Senate to strengthen our health care system and give more Americans the peace of mind of quality, affordable health insurance. It’s time to do our job and actually deliver for the American people.

Thanks to the patients, nurses, doctors, hospitals and ordinary citizens like yourself who stood up and fought back, the special interests lost on the floor of the Senate last night and our Illinois families prevailed.

Sincerely,

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin
