The Rigell Report: A Look Back at the 112th Congress

Dear Friend,

As 2012 comes to a close, I want to provide a quick snapshot of what we have accomplished together in the 112th Congress.  Next week’s Rigell Report will focus on our top priorities for the 113th Congress, which convenes on January 3.

Top Accomplishments in the 112th Congress
Creating Jobs Through Energy – This year, with bipartisan support, the House of Representatives passed which would create more than 18,000 jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. I will reintroduce that bill in the 113th Congress. We will continue to fight for a comprehensive, realistic energy policy that creates more jobs while meeting the obligation we have to leave our children with clean air, clean water, and clean soil.

Ensuring Military Families Have Proper Housing – Congress recently passed the FY13 National Defense Authorization Act, which included
. Those who defend our freedoms deserve safe and clean housing for their families.

Protecting American Families from Contaminated Drywall – With strong bipartisan support, the House and Senate recently passed my legislation,
, which will protect families across the country from the dangerous substance. My legislation also expresses the sense of Congress that manufacturers of toxic drywall should be held accountable and make existing victims whole.

Keeping the Carriers in Hampton Roads – Working together,
from moving out of our area. I am proud that our efforts helped protect thousands of local jobs while stopping the federal government from wasting millions of dollars.

As we approach the New Year, please know that I am mindful of what a special privilege it is to serve and represent you, your family, and all who call our district home.  My wife, Teri, whose love, friendship, and encouragement make this season of public service possible, joins me in wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Yours in Freedom,

Scott Rigell
