The tour focused on the importance of cutting out-of-control government spending but sustaining investments for the future, keeping our children safe in school and advancing research and technology. I have always said that government can do two things with your money: spend it or invest it. The truth is, the federal government has been doing too much spending and not enough investing. Our state has done the heavy lifting to help build this nation into the great power that it is today, and no matter what, I will do everything in my power to make sure that our children will have more opportunities in this world than my generation. This statewide tour allowed me to meet with West Virginia business leaders, labor organizers, education administrators and our students to begin working toward building a stronger America. No Labels is the only organization out there right now that can bring people together to demand that both parties put the country's needs ahead of politics. No Labels can set a whole new standard of what's expected from our national leaders. No Labels doesn't ask anybody to check their political affiliation at the door. But it does ask that our leaders talk with each other, not past each other, and that they explore solutions to our country's challenges, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans. We need to place the country's interests ahead of the raw pursuit of political advantage. No Labels can help us do just that. The future of our country is at stake. Manchin's Message from the Hill to the Mountains

Presidential Inaugurations Are New Beginnings

The inauguration of a president -- any president-- is a special time for our country. It is a star-spangled celebration of our democracy, with parades, parties and patriotism galore. But it also is  a unique opportunity for a new beginning -- a chance to renew our country's spirit by casting aside the pettiness of party politics for a new politics of national purpose.

It is time for a new beginning in America -- a time for both parties to stop worrying about the next election and start working for the next generation. And every day that I am in the United States Senate, representing the great people of West Virginia, I will do everything I possibly can to make that happen.
