Dear Unity,

Veterans Day provides an opportunity for every American to express gratitude to the men and women who have courageously and selflessly defended our freedom at home and abroad. Throughout our nation’s history, men and women in the military have fought for our country and the unique rights and liberties we enjoy as Americans. Our debt to them is vast.

On behalf of all Oregonians, to the veterans in Oregon and across the United States: thank you.

Last month, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici and I brought the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs’ across the country to the U.S. Capitol to highlight the sacrifices and achievements 20 incredible women veterans have made at home and abroad. I was proud to bring this homegrown Oregon exhibit to our nation’s capital to enhance the American public’s understanding of women veterans.

Veterans Day also serves as a reminder to all Americans of the commitments we must fulfill to our service members when they are no longer in uniform. Our veterans deserve full access to the health care and benefits they have earned after honorably serving their country.

I also want to thank military families, who show courage and sacrifice as their wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons are far from home. Along with all Oregonians, I thank you for your strength and resilience.

On this Veterans Day, I encourage all Oregonians to thank the men and women who put on the uniform so the rest of us can live in a safer, more secure country.

All my best,
Jeff
