This is exciting news for Nebraska and our state's cattle producers, who after nearly a decade of limited beef trade with Japan, will finally see those unnecessary barriers revised. Under the terms of the agreement, which will go into effect on February 1, 2013, Japan will now allow the import of beef from cattle less than 30 months of age, compared to the previous limit of 20 months, among other steps. In the long term, I hope all of our trading partners align with international standards, but this is very definitely a positive step in the right direction. Our farmers and ranchers have always produced the highest quality beef and our internationally renowned food safety system has protected consumers for decades. I applaud Japan for recognizing this and taking the right steps to strengthen the trading partnership with the U.S. Click <iqs3.solutions.lmit.com/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx johanns-iq&crop=18381.60632672.12166874.14749790&redirect=http%3a%2f%2fj ohanns.senate.gov%2fpublic%2f%3fp%3dEmailSenatorJohanns> here <johanns.senate.gov/public/ to leave your remarks for Senator Johanns. Senator Johanns e-Update
January 28, 2013

I am happy to report that today the U.S. and Japan announced an agreement that will allow American ranchers to export millions of dollars worth of beef to Japan. This is exciting news for Nebraska and our state’s cattle producers, who after nearly a decade of limited beef trade with Japan, will finally see those unnecessary barriers revised.
