It shouldn't be one or the other.
We shouldn't have to choose between providing health care for millions of uninsured kids, or protecting 800,000 young immigrants who know America as their only home.
They are both the right thing to do.
Yet Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan, along with conservative members of Congress and the White House, have started 2018 by threatening to do exactly that.
Instead of finding bipartisan solutions to fund the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and protecting DREAMers, they're toying with the idea of a government shutdown -- or, as of yesterday, passing another short-term solution that does nothing for DACA recipients.
It's unacceptable. Congressional leaders and the White House should stop pointing fingers, and find a solution that both funds the government and helps these vulnerable Americans.
These issues aren't about politics. They're about keeping our promises as a country.
We have a responsibility to protect our children's health -- to get basic medical care to millions of kids who have done nothing wrong.
We have the same responsibility to help DACA recipients: young, hard-working people that go to our schools, serve in our military, and want to keep contributing to our communities and our country.
An overwhelming number of Americans agree. Fund CHIP. Protect DREAMers. Tell Congress we'll hold them accountable every day they refuse to do so:
