The Citizens United Supreme Court decision turns eight on January 21. Over these past eight years, the damage to our democracy caused by the ruling has been apparent: billions of dollars pouring into our elections, drowning out the voice of the people and too often allowing corporate special interests and billionaire ideologues to dictate the results.
PFAW members like you have been instrumental in building a robust national movement, with many states and hundreds of localities passing resolutions against Citizens United and bills to mitigate the harm of the decision in state and local elections as we work towards our ultimate goal of a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and the other decisions that, along with it, have opened up the floodgates for big money in our elections.
One great way to keep the grassroots movement going is by joining the Stamp Stampede.
Mark the anniversary of Citizens United this year by getting your own STAMP to stamp a message against money in politics -- like PFAW’s own “Not to be Used to Buy Elections” -- onto dollar bills that are in circulation.
The Stampede, headed by Ben Cohen of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, is getting the word out far and wide. Over the past few years, stamping our movement’s slogans on currency has been established as a very effective way to get the word out far and wide with each stamped bill seen by an average of 875 people!
Join the Stampede to get BIG money out of politics by purchasing your very own stamp today and become one of the many thousands of people nationwide stamping money out of our elections.
A few more Citizens United anniversary updates:
Some stampers are hosting Citizens United anniversary stamp parties on Sunday -- see scheduled events here>>
And I’ll be joining some of our most effective allies in our fight against money in politics, including Ben and Jerry, Nina Turner, and Jeff Clements, for a Facebook Live broadcast this Sunday at 4:00pm Eastern Time.
You do not need to be logged in to Facebook or have an account to watch!
Thank you so much for being part of the movement to save our democracy!
