Last week, our candidate Patty Schachtner won Wisconsin's 10th state Senate District — a Republican stronghold that went for Trump by 17 points — by 10 points. That's a 27-point swing!
Wisconsin's Republican governor, Scott Walker, called Patty's win a "wake up call" for his fellow Republicans, but frankly, they're too late.
Voters are already fed up with Republicans passing terrible legislation for women and families and their lack of leadership as Trump throws the country into chaos.
We know pro-choice Democratic women offer the strongest contrast to these Republicans. But our candidates can't turn these districts blue by themselves.
Donate to help elect more pro-choice Democratic women like Patty in 2018.
Wisconsin Republicans' anti-choice crusade did them no favors in this special election. Last year, the GOP-controlled Wisconsin Senate introduced a bill prohibiting state employees' health insurance plans from covering abortion services. And they introduced a bill to severely restrict the ability of state university hospital workers to provide abortion services, making it even harder for women to get the care they need.
Instead of focusing on policies that help create jobs or get more families health care, Republicans are spending their time attacking choice. And it's why voters are picking EMILY's List candidates over their GOP opponents in places like Virginia, Washington State, and now Wisconsin.
This isn't a wave. It's an electoral sea change — and it's being led by strong pro-choice Democratic women.
Let's make sure the tides continue to turn in our favor this year.
Donate to help elect pro-choice Democratic women running up and down the ballot this year:
