Feedback: Tax Reform
In December, Congress acted
to help Texans keep more of their hard-earned money by enacting historic tax reform legislation. Many people will start seeing larger paychecks as
early as this month. But there’s more good news.
Companies across America are passing on tax
savings to employees by raising pay, expanding benefits, and reinvesting in their workforce. Apple announced plans to open a new U.S. campus, hire
20,000 additional workers, and pay about $38 billion in additional taxes on overseas cash it’s bringing back to the U.S. Verizon gave 50 shares
of stock to 153,000 full-time non-executive employees, worth roughly $2,650 at current share price. And Home Depot announced that hourly employees in
the U.S. will receive a bonus of up to $1,000.
Closer to home, Southwest Airlines in Dallas is awarding bonuses
to all employees, increasing investment in its fleet, and donating $5 million to charity. And the folks at Happy State Bank in Amarillo had a new
reason to smile this week when the bank announced a significant increase in wages and benefits for its employees. All thanks to tax reform.
