Many Hoosiers are dealing with the aftermath of heavy rainfall and flooding that took the lives of two individuals and left significant damage in communities like Elwood, Kokomo and Tipton. In a small town in Texas, a fatal explosion at a fertilizer plant took the lives of 14 people, injured at least 200 individuals and destroyed numerous homes. As a nation, we grieve with our friends in Texas whose lives were forever changed by this tragic event. And we were all shocked and sickened by the horrific attacks at the Boston Marathon and the subsequent events. Hoosiers and Americans across the country mourn with the families of the innocent victims and those injured by these evil and cowardly acts of terror. Our country and the people of Boston will get justice. The response from Bostonians and the brave work of federal and local law enforcement officials sent a message to the world that if you take on America, America is going to take you on. Although we have captured the remaining suspect, this will be a long journey ahead for the victims' families and loved ones, and I continue to ask all Hoosiers to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Although these were dark days, we also saw the best of the American spirit. The marathon runners that donated blood for the victims after running 26.2 miles. The first responders that ran toward the danger to save others. The talented and heroic law enforcement officials that have been working around the clock to protect the people of Boston. Americans from all over the country have been coming together to help others heal from these tragic events of the past week. As we try to move forward, we must honor and remember the lives lost and work to get all of the information we can about why the Boston attack occurred, whether there is any larger connection to international extremist groups and what lessons we can learn. As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and the ranking Republican on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, I will continue to work with my colleagues and the administration on ways to protect and prevent our country from attacks. A Difficult Week in Indiana, America

This past week proved to be a difficult one both in Indiana and across the country.

Although we have captured the remaining suspect, this will be a long journey ahead for the victims’ families and loved ones, and I continue to ask all Hoosiers to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Although these were dark days, we also saw the best of the American spirit. The marathon runners that donated blood for the victims after running 26.2 miles. As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and the ranking Republican on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, I will continue to work with my colleagues and the administration on ways to protect and prevent our country from attacks.

On Sunday, I discussed the Boston bombings on ABC's "This Week." Click here or on the image above to watch my comments.
