On the first Arbor Day in 1872, over one million trees were planted in Nebraska alone. Now, Arbor Day has grown to become a day that is celebrated in all 50 states and across the globe. This year, I introduced a joint resolution in the Senate which would include Arbor Day on the list of permanent patriotic and national observances for our country. It calls upon the President to issue a proclamation each year urging Americans to observe this important holiday. Nebraska is an ag state, and much of our success is derived from a healthy environment. Our stewardship of our surroundings goes beyond the field or pasture, and I am proud of our state's rich history of promoting tree planting and tree care for the benefit of our communities and communities across the country. Senator Johanns e-Update
April 26, 2013

Today is a proud day for all Nebraskans as we celebrate the 141st Arbor Day.

Our stewardship of our surroundings goes beyond the field or pasture, and I am proud of our state’s rich history of promoting tree planting and tree care for the benefit of our communities and communities across the country.
