In the coming days and weeks, many of our young men and women will be celebrating an important chapter of their lives by graduating from high school or college. Congratulations to all of our graduates and best of luck in all that the future holds. Also this week, I personally recognized some of our students for their extraordinary achievements. Two students, Jay Haapala of Elkview and Julian Harrington of West Union, stopped by my D.C. office this week while they were representing West Virginia as Prudential Spirit of Community Award honorees. This week, I Skyped the students from Magnolia High School about a new organization they have created called "The Impact Group," which focuses on ways to prevent bullying in schools. We discussed how schools can develop programs to increase awareness of bullying and what role government can play in improving school safety. It is truly unfortunate that bullying remains such a severe problem in our schools in West Virginia and across our nation. These Magnolia High School students are leaders, and they show us that we can make a difference in our schools and communities. They should inspire us all to increase awareness of bullying and proactively find ways to keep our schools safe.
