I've been leading the charge to keep flood insurance rates affordable. Just this week, I introduced the SMART NFIP Act that would delay scheduled rate hikes until Congress fixes the rates and ensures that they are affordable for families in Louisiana and across the country. But I also want to hear from you:
Are you concerned about flood insurance rates?
Since standard homeowners insurance doesn't cover flooding, it's important to have protection from flooding that result from hurricanes and heavy rains.
But it's no use if people can't afford these high premium rates.
Flood insurance is not just about business and commerce. It is about culture; it is about a way of life; it is about preserving coastal communities; and it is about being resilient in storms.
My bill, the SMART NFIP Act, will also repeal provisions preventing new owners of sold homes to continue subsidized rates and allow the rebuilding of key community facilities destroyed in a disaster that lie in velocity zones (v-zones).
I want to stay in contact with you as I continue to work to keep these rates affordable. to receive updates from me on this important issue.
