Congressman Jim Moran, Representing the 8th District of Virginia Dear Unity, Northern Virginia is one of the best places to live in the United States for individuals of every socio economic status thanks in large part to the thousands of local nonprofit organizations and volunteers who call Northern Virginia home. These organizations help our neighbors access affordable health care, assist senior citizens, help veterans returning from war find good jobs and adjust to life back home, put food on the table of struggling families, keep our gardens and parks clean, and care for our four-legged friends. Knowing the important work our local nonprofits undertake, I will be hosting my annual nonprofit workshop in collaboration with Volunteer Fairfax on Tuesday, June 11th at the South County Government Center in Fairfax County. This years workshop is entitled: *Tools of the Trade: Building Your Nonprofit for Greater Community Impact* [link 2]. The event is free and open to all those who work with nonprofits in the area. This year, my office has revamped the program to include an opening panel discussion, Constructing a Fundraising Plan: Accessing Private and Federal Dollars to Build Your Organization, to focus on financial challenges the current economic situation presents for nonprofits. Following the panel, experts will lead breakout strategy sessions on topics including developing a relationship between the board and the executive director, volunteer management, and building public-private partnerships. Please feel free to join me and invite friends and neighbors who work with nonprofits. Sincerely, James P.
