Continuing to ignore the problems at hand is unfair to American citizens who deserve a secure border, and it is unfair to those waiting to legally enter America in pursuit of a better life for their families, just as most of our ancestor did. I cannot support the current reform proposal before the Senate, but I do support having an open discussion about strengthening border security, verifying employment eligibility and updating our immigration laws. It is only through debate and the amendment process that we can fix our current immigration problems. In that spirit, I cosponsored an amendment yesterday which would increase border security. The amendment, the Requiring Enforcement, Security and Safety While Upgrading Lawful Trade and Travel Simultaneously <iqs3.solutions.lmit.com/iqextranet/iqClickTrk.aspx johanns-iq&crop=18302.65972240.12343396.14749790&redirect=http%3a%2f%2fw ww.johanns.senate.gov%2fpublic%2f%3fp%3dPressReleases%26amp%3bContentRec ord_id%3dea67e1e6-9792-45a4-b392-1492e19070e9%26amp%3bContentType_id%3db c82adff-27b4-4832-8fd6-aecbe3e7d8e3> (RESULTS) amendment was introduced by Sen. John Cornyn. This amendment has a number of security provisions, including a requirement that the United States has full control of the border and a fully functional nationwide employment verification system. Increasing border security is exactly where the conversation should begin in our effort to fix our immigration laws. Senator Johanns e-Update
June 13, 2013

With 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States, and more entering each day across a porous border, our current system is undeniably flawed.

The amendment, the (RESULTS) amendment was introduced by Sen. John Cornyn. This amendment has a number of security provisions, including a requirement that the United States has full control of the border and a fully functional nationwide employment verification system. Increasing border security is exactly where the conversation should begin in our effort to fix our immigration laws.
