Senator Boxer: A Stunning Proposal on Military Sexual Assault

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer

News from Barbara Boxer, United States Senator from California Dear Friend: Yesterday, instead of embracing the victims of sexual assault, the majority of the Senate Armed Services Committee embraced the status quo. To see my reaction on MSNBC, please go to: www.boxer.senate.gov/en/press/videos/061313.cfm. While the proposal that passed the Committee makes some improvements regarding the treatment of sexual assault survivors, it fundamentally keeps the decision to prosecute these heinous crimes in the chain of command allowing commanders to not only decide whether a case goes forward, but even to handpick the jury that will render the verdict. The Committee should have passed the real reforms in the bill I authored with Senators Gillibrand and Collins that emulate our allies in Israel, Great Britain, Australia, and Canada. I look forward to fighting for these critical changes on the floor of the Senate. To read more about our bill, please go to: www.boxer.senate.gov/en/press/releases/051613.cfm. Sincerely, Barbara Boxer United States Senator
