One year ago this week, Congress passed and the President signed into law the RESTORE Act—a tremendous victory for the Gulf Coast.
The Deepwater Horizon explosion was a horrific accident that should have never happened. We lost 11 men on the rig, and their families and communities are still suffering from that loss. But with enactment of the RESTORE Act, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to use the penalties to help save our coast and jump start important restoration projects. This will benefit the five Gulf States and the entire nation, which counts on this working coast to fuel our economy and create jobs.
RESTORE Act funds will:
- Restore and protect natural resources, ecosystems, fisheries, marine and wildlife habitats, beaches and coastal wetlands of the Gulf Coast
- Build infrastructure projects benefitting economy or ecological resources, including port infrastructure
- Protect coastal communities from floods
- Revitalize tourism in the Gulf Coast Region
The funds directed to the Gulf from the RESTORE Act will bring justice to our region and allow us to rebuild the eroding coastline, protect communities from storms and preserve a unique and treasured way of life.
Stand"with the Gulf Coast - share this victory with your family, friends and neighbors.
Louisiana strong, Gulf Coast strong.
Have a great Fourth of July,
