Senator Boxer: A Bad Deal for Students

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer
2013-07-25 18:21:07
Dear Friend: I was so disappointed that the Senate yesterday passed the so-called deal on student loans, which will saddle students struggling to pay for college with thousands of dollars of added debt. If we truly believe that education is the key to success in America, we should not make a student who borrows $30,000 to go to school pay almost $8,500 more in interest over 25 years. But thats what will happen if this deal becomes law. To see my speech on the Senate floor against this bad deal for students, go to www.boxer.senate.gov/en/press/videos/072413.cfm I supported an alternative by Senators Jack Reed and Elizabeth Warren that would have saved money for students and their families by capping rates well below the levels in the deal. I will keep fighting for a good deal for our students, one that keeps college affordable for families today and tomorrow. Sincerely, Barbara Boxer United States Senator
