This year, I nominated Mitch and Betty Nisly of Beaver Crossing. They have been foster parents to dozens of children over the years and have adopted nine children. The Nislys, who say their children are always asking for more siblings, are in the process of adopting their 10th child. Their children - Brandon, 21, Amber, 19, Brianna, 17, Dominique, 14, Nicole, 12, Asia, 10, Daryl, 9, Michael, 9, and Maj, 8 - all came to the Nislys through the foster system. Several of them have developmental and physical disabilities. Together, they share an undeniable bond. The Nislys will be recognized at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C., this fall. I've had the great privilege of nominating adoption angels for the past four years. Deserving recipients have included: Steve and Shelley Brune of West Point, Scott and Nicole Sherer of Lincoln, Paul and Mandy Mueting of Kearney and Dave and Laura Whelchel of Harrisburg. I couldn't be more honored to nominate the Nislys as adoption angels and hope their story of unconditional love and compassion inspires others to consider providing a loving home to a child in need. Senator Johanns e-Update
August 29, 2013

It’s an honor to recognize deserving Nebraskans each year as ‘Angels in Adoption.’ This year, I nominated Mitch and Betty Nisly of Beaver Crossing.

I’ve had the great privilege of nominating adoption angels for the past four years. Deserving recipients have included: Steve and Shelley Brune of West Point, Scott and Nicole Sherer of Lincoln, Paul and Mandy Mueting of Kearney and Dave and Laura Whelchel of Harrisburg.

I couldn’t be more honored to nominate the Nislys as adoption angels and hope their story of unconditional love and compassion inspires others to consider providing a loving home to a child in need.
