Thanking Missouri’s Heroes (PHOTOS)

Dear Unity, Yesterday, as the nation paid tribute to those lost in the deadly terror attacks of September 11, 2001, I had the honor of spending the day with some of Missouri's heroes who bravely fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. More than sixty years after they helped achieve victory in World War II, it was a pleasure to welcome a group of veterans from Kansas City traveling to the World War II Memorial for the first time. (For the full collection of photos from the event visit my Flickr page, HERE.) Missouri's Honor Flight program brought the veterans to the Memorial on the National Mall, and it was there that I met them all personally to hear their stories, and talk about issues facing Missouri's veterans. The Honor Flight Network is a non-profit program that brings World War II veterans from across the country to visit the memorial that pays tribute to the war they served in, along with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the Lincoln and Vietnam Memorials. As the daughter of a World War II Veteran, I was always taught to thank a veteran for their service, and yesterday, on a solemn day in our nation's history, it was a reminder of those currently defending us, and the generations before them who fought so bravely to protect our nation. I hope you all join me in saying thank you to the men and women who currently serve, or have served our country. All the best, P.S. Earlier this week, a Vietnam War veteran finally received the Purple Heart medal he bravely earned, and I was proud to have helped him get the recognition he deserves. As always, I want to hear from you.
