Dear Friend: I am so pleased to be giving the inaugural Climate Hero Awards to two innovative presidential libraries: the George W. Bush Presidential Center and the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, both of which have achieved LEED Platinum certification. On Monday, I traveled to Dallas to present the first Climate Hero Award to the Bush Center, which is being recognized for its achievement in energy conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable design. Former First Lady Laura Bush accepted the award, and it was a pleasure to tour the Bush Center with her and see first hand how the librarys use of renewable energy and energy efficient designs are a model of innovative ways to cut carbon pollution. In addition, the outdoor areas are planted with native plants and trees and watered from recycled rainwater. To see a photo, please go to www.flickr.com/photos/epwchairmanboxer/9903583443/ . To read more, go to www.epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm I am looking forward to traveling to Little Rock later this year to present the inaugural award to the Clinton Center for its groundbreaking work in energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
