Government Shutdown

Congressman Jim Matheson

Congressman Jim Matheson, 4th Congressional District of Utah Dear Friend, This week, for the first time in 17 years, our country is in the midst of a government shutdown. Beginning Monday at midnight, the leadership of both parties allowed partisan bickering and political games to stand in the way of keeping the government open for business. Our country deserves better than to be held hostage by a few political extremists. This shutdown not only curtails basic government functions, it furloughs thousands of federal workers, and damages our countrys economic recovery. Throughout this debate, I have maintained that keeping the government operating is the top priority. I have supported every proposal put forward to make that happen. But I am also disappointed that House leadership also brought up several other issues to be discussed in what should have been a straight up or down vote on a funding bill. Every day, all across our country, we figure out how to overcome obstacles and make exceptional things happen. The same seriousness of purpose needs to be applied in Washington it is critically important that we work together in the name of getting things done. Now more than ever, scoring political points cannot trump doing the right thing for our country. Please know that in the upcoming days and weeks, my offices will remain open to serve your needs. You can reach me in West Jordan at 801-486-1236 or in Washington, DC at 202-225-3011. I will have staff at both locations prepared to help you with any questions that might arise about government services and functions affected by the current shutdown. I am honored to serve in Congress on behalf of Utah families like yours. As your representative, I always appreciate hearing from you on current topics and issues affecting you and our community. Please let me know areas you find especially interesting or where I can provide you with additional information. I value your ideas and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Jim Matheson U.S. Representative 4th District of Utah

Dear Friend,

This week, for the first time in 17 years, our country is in the midst of a government shutdown.

Sincerely,

U.S. Representative
4th District of Utah
