Long-term, commonsense solution

Congressman Jim Matheson

Dear Friend, Last week, I voted with a bipartisan majority to reopen the government and prevent an economy-shaking default. While this bill isnt perfect, it puts our country on a path forward - ending the reckless government shutdown and honoring our financial obligations. This legislation allows Congress to reopen the government at current funding levels until January 15th,2014 and prevents default until February 7th, 2014. However, this is only the first step. Congress must work together to find a long-term, commonsense solution to our countrys budget challenges before we are faced with the same mess in three months. As we move forward, I believe Members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike, must focus on the task at hand - putting our country on a sustainable fiscal path and continuing to grow the economy. I remain committed to working with any Member of Congress, from either party, who is serious about getting things done. This is how I have always approached my job, and now, more than ever, we need this kind of approach to encourage collaboration and consensus building. As always, it is a privilege to serve you and your family. I look forward to keeping in touch with you and updating you of my work to foster a thoughtful, responsible dialogue to resolve to our countrys budget challenges. Sincerely, Jim Matheson U.S. Representative 4th District of Utah

Dear Friend,

Last week, I voted with a bipartisan majority to reopen the government and prevent an economy-shaking default.  While this bill isnt perfect, it puts our country on a path forward - ending the reckless government shutdown and honoring our financial obligations.  This legislation allows Congress to reopen the government at current funding levels until January 15th, 2014 and prevents default until February 7th, 2014.

Sincerely,

U.S. Representative
4th District of Utah
