Ron Johnson - United States Senator for Wisconsin Ron's Newsroom Senator Johnson Comments on Continuing Resolution Vote in the Senate The United States Senate, under the failed leadership of Democrat Senator Harry Reid, has not passed a regular appropriations bill in nearly three years. As a result, there is not the thoughtful debate or prioritization of spending that will be necessary if we ever hope to have a more efficient and effective federal government." General Assembly I appreciate President Obama nominating me as one of the U.S. representatives to the 69th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations. This temporary role is an expansion of my duties as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and it will not interfere with my other responsibilities representing the people of Wisconsin." Senator Johnson Honors Hispanic Heritage Month The nation and Wisconsin are marking Hispanic Heritage Month, and I am pleased to join in the celebration. For generations, Americans of Hispanic descent have contributed to making our nation the worlds leading example of liberty. From the thousands upon thousands who were among the nations finest defending our country, sometimes at the cost of their lives, to the millions who raised families, earned livelihoods and built businesses, these fellow Americans have immeasurably enriched the incredible experiment in human freedom that is our country. Senator Johnson Celebrates Constitution Day "Today we commemorate the United States Constitution. Formally limiting the power of Government and recognizing that individual liberty is a birthright endowed by our Creator was a revolutionary idea in 1787, and it remains the core of this incredible experiment in human liberty that we call America. We properly honor the Constitution when we take time to understand it and to defend it, whether from outside threats or overreaching executive decrees. Video Reform Bill Advances in Senate The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation on Wednesday advanced a bill that will preserve local signals for satellite subscribers and help provide opportunities for Wisconsinites to get access to Wisconsin news and Green Bay Packers games. Sen. Ron Johnson made the following statement: The Satellite Television Access and Viewer Rights Act (STAVRA) will continue broadcast service for more than 1.5 million satellite subscribers. I worked closely with the committee to ensure video reforms included in the managers amendment appropriately address todays dynamic video market. I appreciate the committees openness to my input. As we review this landscape further, we should continue to look at reforms that remove governments influence, not further increase its role. " Read more at www.ronjohnson.senate.gov.
