Kirk�s Battle Buddies
My own battle
buddy Jackson has inspired me to never give up and to work hard every
day during my recovery. It is my goal to offer the same support for
others feeling alone.
Yesterday I hosted my inaugural
�Battle Buddies� meeting at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago
with local Illinoisans who have suffered health setbacks and
disabilities. I created �Kirk�s Battle Buddies� to inspire
and push individuals to continue working hard on their rehabilitation.
The �Battle Buddies,� who are all at various stages of their
recoveries, were encouraged to set personal physical goals, from climbing steps
at their own homes to competing in stair climbs in all of Illinois�
Pastor John Caples from
Jesus Name Apostolic Church in Waukegan also joined us. Healing
people using faith and counseling is the best way to bring them back into
the work force, and with Pastor John Caples I know that this group will
be a beacon of hope to countless Illinois
Tomorrow I will join some of my �Battle Buddies,� including
my Jackson, for the
�Hustle Up the Hancock,� which is an annual event that brings 4,000
individuals together to climb the John Hancock Center�s stairs to
raise funds for lung disease research, advocacy and
