Block concealed carry reciprocity Parkland, Sutherland Springs, Las Vegas, Orlando. Whether it’s mass shootings or the appalling number of daily gun deaths, the National Rifle Association’s “guns everywhere” agenda is fueling an epidemic of gun violence in our country. After each mass tragedy, Republicans offer their thoughts and prayers for the victims but show their blind allegiance to the NRA by refusing to act to keep their constituents safe. But now that Trump’s in the White House, they are going even further to help the NRA ramp up its extremist agenda on a national scale – with a reckless, dangerous bill to undermine gun safety laws across the country. The right-wing Republican extremists in the House of Representatives recently passed the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) dream bill.^1 The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would undermine state efforts to protect residents from gun violence and force every state to abide by the weakest gun laws in the country. Now more than ever we need to do everything we can to stop the NRA. Republicans are so beholden to the NRA that they will do their bidding, but Democratic senators have the power to block the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. [ act.credoaction.com/sign/Senate_Concealed_Carry ]Tell Senate Democrats: Block the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. Click here to sign the petition. Every state allows some kind of concealed carry, but 39 states require a gun owner to obtain a permit before publicly carrying concealed weapons in public.^2 Some of those states require training before residents can get those permits. Some states block people who have committed violent crimes, domestic abusers, stalkers or people with mental illness that make them a danger to themselves or others from buying a gun or getting a concealed carry permit. Nearly every state restricts residents from carrying concealed weapons in places like schools, hospitals, government buildings or bars.^3 The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act uses the differences between states’ gun control laws to water down protections across the country. It forces states to recognize concealed carry permits issued by any other state, no matter how lax the state’s permitting standards are.^4 It will encourage people, including domestic abusers, who cannot get a concealed carry license in one state to “permit shop:” applying in another state with weaker laws and bringing their gun back to the state where they live.^5 A resident of a state whose legislature has stood up for public safety and passed gun control legislation would be no safer than a resident of a state whose legislature is in the pocket of the NRA. Years of statistics prove that comprehensive state gun laws lead to fewer gun deaths, but the NRA wants to undermine public safety by advancing a reckless, dangerous policy like concealed carry reciprocity.^6 Senate Democrats must use their power to reject the NRA’s extremism and block this deadly bill. Sign the petition: Investigate the NRA’s Russia ties
[ act.credoaction.com/sign/NRA_Russia ]Senate must investigate: Did the NRA launder money for Russia to help Trump win? Tell the Senate Judiciary Committee: "Conduct a full investigation into the allegations that the NRA helped funnel Russian money into the 2016 U.S. elections." Add your name: [ act.credoaction.com/sign/NRA_Russia ]Sign the petition ► Dear Anne, [ act.credoaction.com/sign/NRA_Russia ]Senate must investigate: Did the NRA launder money for Russia to help Trump win? Eighteen school shootings, 30 mass shootings, 1,827 deaths from gun violence. This is the National Rifle Association’s body count for just the first 6 weeks of 2018. This week’s mass shooting in Parkland, Florida was committed by someone with alleged ties to a violent white supremacist group.^1 He was just the latest mass shooter able to legally purchase a semi-automatic weapon thanks to the NRA’s relentless lobbying for its guns everywhere agenda. Recently, news broke that the FBI is investigating whether the NRA helped launder Russian money to support Donald Trump’s election.^2 If this is true, it means that not only is the NRA helping arm white supremacist domestic terrorists, but it may have broken the law to help a hostile foreign government illegally tilt the U.S. elections toward a pro-gun, racist, xenophobic fascist. Now more than ever, it is time to stop the NRA. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have already been investigating whether the NRA helped connect Russian officials to Trump’s campaign.^3 Now, the entire committee must engage. But the NRA’s stranglehold on Congress means it will take massive pressure for Senate Republicans to do the right thing. [ act.credoaction.com/sign/NRA_Russia ]Tell the Senate Judiciary Committee: Investigate whether the NRA helped Russia influence our elections. Click here to sign the petition. According to media reports, the NRA has cultivated deep relationships with influential Russians for years. Russian gun-rights groups have hosted NRA officials, including Trump surrogate Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clark, in Russia, and high-profile Russians have been given high-level access at NRA meetings.^3 In 2016, Alexander Torshin, a Putin ally who is a top official at the Central Bank of Russia and is now at the center of the FBI’s investigation, sat with Donald Trump Jr. at an NRA convention-related dinner.^4 Leading up to that convention, Paul Erickson, a conservative activist and NRA member who was part of an NRA-Russia trip, tried to use the NRA convention as “first contact” to broker a connection between Russia and the Trump campaign.^5 Since Putin came back to power in 2012, Russia has increasingly pursued a goal of destabilizing the U.S. Part of their strategy has been aligning with extreme groups within the American right wing to deepen existing cultural and political divisions.^6 With the NRA, Russia has a perfect partner. The NRA is extremely divisive and has leverage over corrupt and craven members of Congress. The NRA divides us not only by blocking any efforts to keep communities safe from gun violence, but also by supercharging its long history of racism with reactionary, xenophobic and violent rhetoric that some have said could help further radicalize white domestic terrorists.^7 The NRA’s extremism combined with Russia’s desires to destabilize our democracy is a dangerous combination that the Senate Judiciary Committee must take seriously with a thorough investigation. [ act.credoaction.com/sign/NRA_Russia ]Tell the Senate Judiciary Committee: Investigate whether the NRA helped Russia influence our elections. Click here to sign the petition. The NRA spent at least $55 million during the 2016 elections, including at least $30 million directly focused on electing Trump.^8 When the Supreme Court opened the door for unlimited corporate dark money spending on elections with its Citizens United decision, the court’s right-wing majority alleged that the spending would be accompanied by disclosure.^9 Nothing could be further from the truth. The NRA has become a hub for dark money donations that are made to organizations that are not required to disclose their donors. A Karl Rove–aligned SuperPAC and a Koch brothers non-profit are among the groups that have given money to the NRA to advance Republicans’ extreme right-wing agenda.^10 The influence of dark money is bad enough, but there have already been signs that the dark money loopholes will be used to illegally funnel foreign money into our elections.^11 It is illegal for a campaign to solicit or receive anything of value from a foreign national. If the NRA helped Russia funnel money into the 2016 elections, it laundered money to help the Trump campaign – and potentially others in the Republican Party – break the law for electoral gain. The Senate Judiciary Committee has a responsibility to make sure it deepens its investigation to find out what really happened – and to ensure it does not happen again. We need to show the Republicans on the committee that defending our democracy is more important than their allegiance to the NRA and make sure that the Democrats on the committee know we will have their backs if they use their power to dig in. 87% of Americans support protecting Dreamers. So what’s holding it up?
A new message from your friends at People For the American Way. *********************** Anne, Last year, the Trump administration announced that it would be ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program -- which President Obama had established to provide temporary deportation relief for some undocumented immigrants who have been in the country since they were children -- saying that the move created a “window of opportunity” for Congress to codify protections for Dreamers and “resolve the DACA issue with heart and compassion.” Since then, thousands of DREAMers have lost their DACA protections, and others aren’t even trying to renew their DACA status out of fear of giving their information to an administration that is aggressively deporting even people with clean records. PFAW's Right Wing Watch released a video today, at the same time that Congress is debating legislation on immigration, highlighting White Supremacists on the anti-immigrant Right as the real obstacle to enacting a solution for the 800,000 DREAMers whose lives have been turned upside down by the elimination of DACA. Urgent petition: Gun control now

[ act.credoaction.com/sign/parkland ]Tell Republicans in Congress: Thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need gun control now. Click here to sign the petition. Tragic mass shootings like the one yesterday in South Florida have become all too common. The last 5 months alone now account for three of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history.^3 In the past 5 years, there have been nearly 300 school shootings in the United States^4 – including 18 so far in 2018 alone.^5 According to Newsweek, “Florida has some of the weakest gun laws in the country.” Gun owners are not required to have a license, they are not required to register their guns and it is perfectly legal to own semi-automatic assault rifles like the one used in Wednesday’s tragic shooting.^6 The heartbreaking truth is that the combination of weak state and federal gun laws made Wednesday’s horrific attack possible. [ act.credoaction.com/sign/parkland ]Tell Republicans in Congress: Thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need gun control now. Click here to sign the petition. There’s one reason why politicians consistently fail to take real action on gun violence: The National Rifle Association. The NRA has a chokehold on Congress that keeps most bills about gun control from even coming to the floor for a vote. Politicians beholden to – or afraid of – the NRA are willing to turn their backs on their constituents when it comes time to implement reasonable limits and controls on guns. But you can count on them for a “heartbroken” tweet about their “thoughts and prayers” when a tragic shooting makes the national news. Finally breaking the NRA’s chokehold on Congress will require massive grassroots pressure on our elected officials, demanding that they deliver more than thoughts and prayers in the face of our epidemic of gun violence. This budget's values
Friend -- On Monday, this administration showed us their proposed budget for 2019. They made it perfectly clear to us what they value -- and just as importantly, what they don't. They don't appear to value clean air, clean water, or our public health, as they are seeking to cut the EPA's funding by a third. They don't seem to value a stable climate for our kids to grow up in, as they try to slash (or eliminate entirely) the budgets of renewable energy programs that move our country toward a cleaner future. They don't appear to value our kids' education, as they remove billions from crucial K-12 education in our public schools -- including training for teachers, and funding for after-school programs. They certainly don't seem to value our health care -- not for Obamacare enrollees, or seniors who depend on Medicare, or the most vulnerable among us who depend on Medicaid, be it treatment for opioid addiction or chronic illness. They don't appear to value our social security, our public transportation, or our national parks. Two months after delivering a $1.5 trillion tax cut that blows a hole in the deficit to overwhelmingly benefit those at the very top -- these are the things the White House says we can't afford. These devastating cuts do not reflect who we are as a country -- and we have to join together to say so. Work with OFA to fight this budget as it moves to Congress: my.ofa.us/Fight-This-Administrations-Budget It's about more than a budget, friend. It's about understanding that the middle class makes our country strong -- that everyone should get a fair shake, and be afforded basic decency and dignity. And that it's on us to make needed investments to move America forward with huge leaps in science, medicine, and infrastructure. That's how we deliver progress and hope. Americans don't deserve a budget like this. If you're looking at these cuts, asking: "Why now? Where'd the money go?" Here's your simple answer: This administration (and folks in Congress who joined them) gave this money away in December with extravagant tax cuts that largely benefit the wealthy and our largest corporations. Now they're trying to make the middle class and those who need help the most pick up the tab. We can't stand for this. Join me to say, this is not who we are: my.ofa.us/Fight-This-Administrations-Budget Thank you, Sen. Tim Kaine

Enough with the elitism.
Folks -- House Democrats had a retreat last week -- and I had the honor of speaking to them. I'm going to say to you what I said to them. We have a president who's in this for himself -- and nobody else. And that means he'll shred our values, destroy our institutions and our standing in the world, if it means saving his own hide. And we have a Republican Party that will do anything to protect him. They've abandoned their principles and their obligations to millions of Americans who put their faith in them. So Donald Trump's looking out for Donald Trump. Republicans are looking out for Donald Trump. Who's looking out for everyone else? Democrats. Not with words. With action. That has been true since our party's founding, and it's true today. So in 2018, I'm going to beat a path all across this country to stand up for leaders who will stand up for all of us. Are you with me? Are you ready? Then help me fight. Give what you can to help elect a new set of American leaders in districts all around this country -- and let's take back the House: go.americanpossibilities.org/email-donate I truly believe we can do that, folks. And I think we might even be able to win the Senate, too. But we're not going to be able to do it if we're divided as a movement. I'm sick and tired of this talk that we have to choose between a progressive party and the party of working people. It's elitist, and it's wrong. High-school educated, working-class folks aren't imagining what they're living through. They've got real concerns. They're losing hope. And standing up for those people doesn't mean we don't also believe: That who you love is your business. That my granddaughters deserve every opportunity that my grandson does. That violence against women will never be tolerated. That climate change is real. So don't tell me we have to choose between our progressive values and working people. That's like telling me I have to rip out my heart to save my soul. I won't do it, and this party shouldn't, either. I'm making it my number one job this year to get out there and elect the folks who will actually get something done for all of us. Elizabeth Warren. The report reveals the credit reporting company’s failures before, during and after the breach – including attempting to profit off the disaster. The damning indictment arrives even as Trump’s hand-picked head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Mick Mulvaney, is sabotaging his own agency’s effort to punish Equifax.^2 “We’re unveiling this report while Mick Mulvaney is killing the consumer agency’s probe into the Equifax breach,” Sen. Warren said, “Mick Mulvaney shoots another middle finger at consumers.” She warned that if we do not act, Equifax is “going to wiggle off the hook.”^3 Sen. Warren’s new bill, Equifax would have paid at least $1.5 billion in penalties for putting 145 million Americans’ personal information at risk. Instead, the company may end up making money off the breach. Equifax waited more than a month to tell the public after discovering the data breach, during which time a number of executives sold their company stock.^4 When Equifax finally did come clean, they did so with a website that security experts described as “sketchy” and reportedly provided “inconsistent and unhelpful information to many.”^5 In recent weeks, we learned that the stolen private data in some cases included phone numbers, email addresses and driver’s license information. Sen. Warren’s new bill would install important protections and mandatory penalties. It would establish an office of cybersecurity at the Federal Trade Commission, mandate financial compensation for victims and impose mandatory penalties for allowing hackers to access private information.^6 Along with Sen. Warren’s previous bill, the Freedom from Equifax Exploitation (FREE) Act, which would give people more control over their private data, it would be a massive step to reining in the out-of-control credit reporting agencies. Then, they charge people to freeze or access their credit reports.^7 It was not that long ago that credit bureaus would investigate your political leanings, sexuality, medical conditions, drinking habits and more to determine your “creditworthiness.” Being a person of color, a single woman or gay could hurt your credit score. During World War II, credit companies ran loyalty checks on behalf of the military. With technological advancements, computerized systems now vacuum up as much data on you as possible. From the beginning, credit bureaus have been an under-regulated, invasive corporate force helping to keep access to credit – and thus financial well-being – in the hands of the few.^8 It is long past time to crack down on the credit reporting agencies like Equifax. MAJOR immigration vote in the Senate this week, Anne
A new message from your friends at People For the American Way. *********************** Dear Anne, After months of broken promises to DREAMers, the Senate is finally expected to begin debate on an immigration bill. Over 80 percent of Americans support an immigration law with a clear path to citizenship for DREAMers, and movement toward that goal is long overdue. Sign now: Urge your senators to support the DREAM Act to protect young undocumented people today>> act.pfaw.org/sign/pass-dream-act/ A message will be emailed to your senators letting them know you want them to PASS the DREAM Act without delay. It’s very important that the bill that passes does not pander to Trump and White House aide Stephen Miller’s white supremacist demands. Senators must support a bill that protects DREAMers and only includes common-sense border protection measures. Please take action today to protect DREAMers and urge your senators to pass the DREAM act in the Senate>> act.pfaw.org/sign/pass-dream-act/ Every day that this goes unaddressed 122 more DACA recipients lose their protected status, and that status will fully expire on March 5. Rob Porter’s security clearance
[ act.credoaction.com/sign/Porter_Clearance ]The White House’s security clearance problem Tell Wayne Stone, acting Inspector General for the intelligence community:   "Investigate the White House’s security clearance policy." Add your name: [ act.credoaction.com/sign/Porter_Clearance ]Sign the petition ► Dear Anne, [ act.credoaction.com/sign/Porter_Clearance ]The White House’s security clearance problem Last week, Rob Porter resigned from his White House job after allegations broke that he emotionally and physically abused his ex-wives. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and White House Counsel Donald McGahn both knew that Porter’s wives had reported his abusive behavior.^1 Trump and Kelly both defended Porter after he resigned.^2 It is appalling but unsurprising that the misogynist-in-chief’s White House would elevate and celebrate a man accused of domestic violence. But in doing so, the Trump White House senior staff allowed Porter to have daily access to sensitive and often classified information without a security clearance – a clearance that the FBI held up because one of his ex-wives said he might be susceptible to blackmail.^3 The White House’s incompetence goes far beyond sweeping domestic violence under the rug or even letting one staffer access information beyond his security clearance. The Trump regime has dozens of staffers with high-level access to sensitive information who have not been cleared by the FBI.^4 [ act.credoaction.com/sign/Porter_Clearance ]Tell Inspector General for the intelligence community Wayne Stone: Investigate the White House’s security clearance policy. Click here to sign the petition. Porter’s resignation, as well as the departure of a second White House staffer who also quit last week when news surfaced that his ex-wife had told the FBI he was emotionally and physical abusive, has shed light on the White House’s huge problem with security clearances, but there is still much we do not know.^5 Senate Democrats, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Mazie Hirono, have requested information from Wayne Stone, the acting inspector general for the intelligence community, but unless there is a huge outcry from the public to demand an investigation, the Trump regime will be allowed to jeopardize national security.^6 [ act.credoaction.com/sign/Porter_Clearance ]Tell Inspector General for the intelligence community Wayne Stone: Investigate the White House’s security clearance policy. Click here to sign the petition. Jared Kushner is among those who are working at the White House without permanent security clearance. Trump’s son-in-law has been embroiled in the Russia investigation, in particular after it was revealed he lied about meeting with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.^7 Kushner has even higher-level access to classified information than Porter did, and it is unacceptable that Trump and Kelly have continued to keep him in his role when he may never actually be granted permanent clearance.^8 Kushner’s extensive business dealings and the fact that he initially lied on his clearance form have delayed his clearance, but we still do not know why so many other positions in the Trump regime are filled by those who lack clearance or what else Kelly is covering up about his staff. It is potentially a huge national security risk. According to Comptroller General of the United States Gene Dodaro, “A high-quality and timely personnel security clearance process is essential to minimize the risks of unauthorized disclosures of classified information and to help ensure that information about individuals with criminal histories or other questionable behavior is identified and assessed.”^9 But that is simply not happening. There is a huge backlog of pending security clearance requests – more than 700,000 – likely created in part by disorganization and understaffing at the White House.^10 While it is unsurprising that Trump staffers with a history of discrediting survivors kept Porter in his role, it is unacceptable that Kelly and McGahn dismissed the credible concern of Porter’s ex-wife who believed he would be susceptible to blackmail. A red flag like that should have been enough for them to fire Porter from a role that gave him access to sensitive, top secret materials. Instead, they let him continue to work and even came to his defense when he resigned. Kelly went so far as to call Porter a “man of true integrity and honor.”^11 If this is what Trump and his top staff think integrity looks like, it raises major questions about what other flags the FBI has brought to Trump staff that they have decided to ignore. This is a huge problem for national security – concerns about high-level staffers that would be disqualifying in any other administration are being ignored, and the public deserves an investigation. Child care crisis in the U.S. needs a fix -- now>>
A new message from your friends at People For the American Way. *********************** Dear Anne, Child care in America currently costs more than the average cost of in-state college tuition. Working families, particularly people of color, are disproportionately impacted by the outrageous costs of child care. But all children deserve the opportunity to not only survive but also thrive, which includes ensuring that they are educated and cared for in safe, nurturing environments. One solution to address the child care crisis in America is the Child Care for Working Families Act -- a bold new bill that not only provides direct financial assistance for child care and early learning expenses, on a sliding scale based on household income, but takes a comprehensive approach -- addressing child care challenges like the quality, availability, and flexibility of care. The bill would provide important opportunities for all families in need of child care assistance… but to move forward it needs more support in Congress. Sign now: Ask your members of Congress to support the Child Care for Working Families Act! act.pfaw.org/sign/support-childcare-for-working-families-act/ Passing this bill wouldn’t just be a win for the working families who need help finding and paying for child care that meets their needs, it would also provide a much-needed boost for educators. Early childhood educators in the U.S. are mostly female and drastically underpaid, with African American teachers earning even less than their underpaid counterparts. This bill also invests in the dedicated people who are caring for and teaching our children. Every child deserves access to good and enriching care -- child care quality shouldn’t depend on someone’s income, race, or zip code. Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor this groundbreaking bill to improve the lives of children and working families>> act.pfaw.org/sign/support-childcare-for-working-families-act/ Thank you, Katie O'Connell, Digital Communications Coordinator

Rape culture at Michigan State: Sign the petition to demand accountability
[ act.credoaction.com/sign/MSU_Nassar ]Demand accountability for culture of sexual assault at Michigan State Tell the relevant authorities at Michigan State University: “Immediately remove every university employee or representative who was aware of sexual assault happening on the Michigan State University campus but did nothing to stop it.” Add your name: [ act.credoaction.com/sign/MSU_Nassar ]Sign the petition ► Dear Anne, [ act.credoaction.com/sign/MSU_Nassar ]Demand accountability for culture of sexual assault at Michigan State It was a powerful convening of survivors. More than 150 women made statements about Larry Nassar’s decades of abuse at USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University before a Michigan judge sentenced him to spend the rest of his life in prison. Nassar was a serial abuser who routinely assaulted his patients under the guise of “care.” He got away with it for so long because the people with the power to stop him turned a blind eye to his abuse. News recently broke that at least 14 MSU officials knew about Nassar’s crimes.^1 But their enabling of Nassar appears to be only the tip of the iceberg. In-depth reporting by ESPN shows that there is a long history of various MSU officials mishandling and covering up assault. Relevant authorities at MSU must hold any person who knew about this toxic culture but did nothing accountable. [ act.credoaction.com/sign/MSU_Nassar ]Tell MSU authorities: Hold anyone who helped perpetuate a culture of assault and abuse at MSU fully accountable. Click here to sign the petition. Already a number of top MSU officials, including the president and athletics director, have resigned in the wake of Nassar’s sentencing but not a single person has been fired.^2 This is despite the fact that: * Six women said they complained to MSU staffers, from coaches to trainers, about Nassar’s abuse, some as long as 20 years ago. Some were told they were receiving valid medical treatments, while others were discouraged from reporting. Many of those staffers still work for MSU.^3 * In 2014, MSU Title IX’s office resolved a complaint because it found that the complainant was confused about the “‘nuanced difference’ between an osteopathic medical procedure and sexual assault.” MSU officials promoted Kristine Moore, the Title IX investigator. She is now MSU's assistant general counsel.^4 * MSU let Nassar practice for 16 months while he was under criminal investigation by the MSU Police Department. The department asked local authorities to charge Nassar with sexual assault, but MSU still allowed Nassar to continue seeing patients.^5 * Dr. William Strampel, dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, blocked Nassar from seeing patients after MSU started its Title IX investigation. After Moore resolved the complaint, Strampel allowed Nassar to see patients again. He ordered Nassar to have another person in the exam room with him and “limit skin-to-skin contact,” but later told police he never intended to make sure Nasser had met those conditions. Strampel recently resigned.^6 * MSU failed to hand over its Nassar files to the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights when it was conducting a Title IX investigation of the school.^7 If any of the officials at MSU who were aware of Nasser’s behavior had been brave enough to stand up, he would not have been able to continue his predation. MSU is a major player in collegiate athletics. Its basketball program is one of the marquee programs in the NCAA. If we can force the university – through massive public outcry – to pursue total accountability, it could have a positive ripple effect and send an unmistakable message across the NCAA and the American sports landscape. [ act.credoaction.com/sign/MSU_Nassar ]Tell MSU authorities: Hold anyone who helped perpetuate a culture of assault and abuse at MSU fully accountable. Click here to sign the petition. It’s not just Larry Nassar. Last week, ESPN’s Outside the Lines reported on a widespread and long-standing culture at MSU of denying, suppressing and failing to act on reports of violence and sexual assault on campus, especially when they involve athletes.^8 Their allegations implicate the MSU football, basketball and Title IX programs as well as campus police. ESPN found 16 accusations against football players since current coach Mark Dantonio arrived in 2007.^9 It also uncovered allegations against players as well as a student-assistant coach in Tom Izzo’s basketball program.^10 In 2014, the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights began an investigation into how MSU handled violence and sexual assault claims. The results highlight that "a sexually hostile environment existed for and affected numerous students and staff on campus," and MSU's "failure to address complaints of sexual harassment, including sexual violence, in a prompt and equitable manner caused and may have contributed to a continuation of this sexually hostile environment."^11 While MSU agreed to make improvements, it is not clear if they have done so. Betsy DeVos, Trump’s secretary of education who is from Michigan, has already made clear her disdain for Title IX, so we cannot count on the Department of Education to use its authority to hold MSU accountable.^12 We need to generate massive pressure now to force MSU hold everyone accountable for Nasser’s abuse. The more of us who sign, the more powerful that message will be. Can you help to demand that MSU hold anyone who helped perpetuate a culture of assault and abuse fully accountable? Stand with working Americans
Friend -- In 2008, the big banks crashed our economy, and President Obama inherited one heck of a mess. Millions of Americans lost their jobs, millions lost their homes, millions lost their life savings -- all because of Wall Street's reckless greed. Ten years later, this administration and many in Congress seem to have forgotten all about the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Now they are trying to jam a bill through the Senate that would roll back Dodd-Frank -- the rules that President Obama signed into law to help regulate the big banks and protect American families. This bill would let some of the very same big banks that broke our economy go back to the way things were before the American taxpayers bailed them out. I call this bill the Bank Lobbyist Act - because that's who it's for, after all. If we don't speak out right now, the Senate could roll back these banking regulations as soon as this month. Sign on with OFA now and add your voice to those speaking out against legislation that lets the big banks go back to gambling with our economy: my.ofa.us/Stand-With-Working-Americans Even a decade later, too many Americans are still feeling the effects of the 2008 crisis. The stock market may be doing better- but that doesn't matter a whole lot to families living paycheck-to-paycheck who can't afford any stock. Lots of the folks who were wiped out will never recover. They won't get new houses or build up a retirement plan. Some are back at work, but at lower-paying jobs. And others are drowning in debt. They are still paying the price for the banks' recklessness. The very last thing that we should be doing is taking the cop off the beat on Wall Street -- and letting these big banks put more at risk. If you agree there should be a level playing field -- not one rigged in favor of giant banks -- speak up with OFA now. We must stop our leaders in Washington from rolling back the rules President Obama signed into law. We must prevent another financial crisis: my.ofa.us/Stand-With-Working-Americans Thanks for being a part of this, Elizabeth Warren

Sign if you agree: Stop Trump’s military parade
[ act.credoaction.com/sign/trump_parade ]Tell Congress: Block and resist the #TrumpParade Petition to Congress: "Block and resist Donald Trump’s attempts to exploit the women and men of our armed forces as political props for his authoritarian regime by holding a military parade." Add your name: [ act.credoaction.com/sign/trump_parade ]Sign the petition ► Dear Anne, [ act.credoaction.com/sign/trump_parade ]Tell Congress: Block and resist the #TrumpParade Instead of honoring the troops, Donald Trump wants them to honor him – by spending tens of millions to soothe his fragile ego by forcing troops to march by saluting. According to recent reports, the Pentagon has already begun laying down plans for a giant, expensive military parade through Washington under direct orders from the aspiring dictator in the White House.^1 Trump apparently wants to use the troops as partisan, political props in a massive #TrumpParade through the streets of our capital city so he can play dictator for a day. Congress has the oversight and funding power to put a stop to this – but Trump will quickly brand any opposition as treasonous, so we need to create a massive public backlash against using troops as props in his #TrumpParade. [ act.credoaction.com/sign/trump_parade ]Tell Congress: Block and resist the #TrumpParade. Click here to sign the petition. The early backlash is already having an impact. The Pentagon and secretary of defense are equivocating on the cost and location of the parade, a handful of legislators of both parties have criticized the idea and Democrats Sen. Ben Cardin and Rep. Marc Veasey have introduced legislation to stop it.^2 We need to continue speaking out to block this idea once and for all. Trump does not care about the military or veterans. His deportation task force at ICE consistently rounds up and deports veterans who have served in the military.^3 He spent his campaign attacking prisoners of wars and Gold Star parents. This parade is all about an increasingly unpopular Trump exploiting troops for his own gain. Dictators around the world use parades like these to try to scare enemies and intimidate their own citizens. Here are a few ways we could actually honor the women and men who serve our country in uniform: * Putting a stop to deportations * Ending the brinkmanship with countries like North Korea and Iran that risks military conflict * Not sending them into harm’s way for needless wars like in Iraq * Funding strong diplomacy so the military doesn’t need to shoulder the burden of every international flash point * Paying rank-and-file soldiers better so that no military family lives in poverty * Refusing to tolerate bigoted, transphobic barriers to service * Reining in sky-high defense spending that helps war profiteering corporations instead of enlisted troops * Spending money on aid to Puerto Rico, eliminating college debt, and providing healthcare or a thousand other ways to strengthen the country troops are willing to die to protect. A parade honoring Trump is nowhere on that list. We cannot let Trump exploit American women and men in uniform to advance his own agenda. [ act.credoaction.com/sign/trump_parade ]Tell Congress: Block and resist the #TrumpParade. Click here to sign the petition. The #TrumpParade would also cost millions of dollars at a time when Trump insists the military needs more money and his lapdog Republicans in Congress claim we cannot afford health care for children. The truth is that the military has enough money already for a dozen parades – and that money would be far better spent on schools, health care, infrastructure, diplomatic efforts, aid to Puerto Rico or a dozen other public works projects that would make America stronger as well as safer.^4 Trump and Trump Republicans will claim anyone who opposes this measure opposes the troops. Some Democrats have already bravely spoken out, but others are too silent. We need to make sure Democrats see the public backlash and have the courage to oppose Trump’s dictator parade and force Republicans once again to side with Americans or with Trump. Yet more than 25 years after Congress passed the Family and Medical Leave Act – which requires some employers to allow employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave to attend to family-related matters – the United States remains the only industrialized nation in the world that does not offer all citizens paid family leave.^2 Paid family leave is a good, progressive policy that CREDO supports. But we can’t allow Sen. Rubio and Ivanka Trump to pit paid family leave against Social Security. As Social Security Works President Nancy Altman put it, “our country can afford to increase, not cut, Social Security’s modest benefits, while also adding paid family and medical leave.”^3 Under the proposal reportedly being discussed, new parents who choose to receive paid family leave would be forced to push back the date at which they would be eligible to receive Social Security benefits.
